Job Summary: 

The Manager of Marketing & Communications is a detail-oriented strategist, who excels at translating and communicating the mission and ensuring that the organization can meet the goal of various campaigns. A strong project manager as well as creator, this person provides guidance on the creation of marketing and communication components of campaigns and delivers print and digital materials needed for promotion. Their work centers on completing outcomes and deliverables as established by an annual communication plan which is completed in collaboration with the Director of Communications & External Relations as well as annual fundraising plan as established by the VP of Development & Communications and department staff. They are a skilled writer, designer, and developer. They craft compelling marketing materials, semi/annual reports for the public, and maintain the organization’s website. The Manager of Marketing & Communications reports to the Director of Communications & External Relations. They supervise the Social Media & Content Coordinator and manage contracts with freelancers and vendors. This position is based in Downtown Los Angeles and requires the individual to work 3 days per week in office. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to: 

  • Under the guidance of the Director of Communications & External Relations, contribute to the development, and execute on the implementation, of the organization’s Communications Plan. Maintain timelines and due dates. 
  • As directed by the VP of Development & Communications in line with the department’s Fundraising Plan, provide creative and content for fundraising campaigns and fundraising events. Directly support the work of the organization’s frontline fundraisers. 
  • Develop a wide range of organizational materials from the initial strategic planning phase through copywriting, content creation, design, and execution; materials include annual reports, brochures, fact sheets, newsletters, fundraising appeals, event materials, email, website, and other branded collateral. 
  • Manage the calendar of emails deployed from the Development & Communications Department’s bulk email tool. Receive and execute the production and dissemination of emails for the full department. 
  • Manage the organization’s website. Ensure that the website CMS platform is up-to-date, secure, and content is current. Receive and implement requests for content updates and page requests from across the organization; contribute to keyword audits and optimization of ChangeLives.org SEO ranking. Utilize Google G4 platform. Manage outside web vendor(s) and work with internal IT department to ensure that all security and tracking systems protocols are optimized.
  • Manage portfolio of outside contractors and vendors, including designers, printers, direct mail houses, photographers, and filmmakers. 
  • Maintain an active roster of Chrysalis clients who are willing and able to participate in all forms of storytelling in support of the mission (print, online, event); provide guidance and support to Chrysalis front-line staff as they capture client stories. 
  • Support the growth of the organization by fielding and delegating requests from other Chrysalis departments, including those related to design, communications, client speaking engagements, branding, etc. 
  • Provide general support to the Development & Communications Department as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

Qualification/Required Skills: 

  • Commitment to the organizational mission and ethical storytelling. 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and accurately complete multiple tasks and work under deadlines and changing priorities. 
  • Strong graphic design capability using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro required. 
  • 4+ years communications or marketing experience in an agency or nonprofit. 
  • Computer and software/platform skills: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress/other CRM, Blackbaud 
  • Early adopter of emerging technology, with demonstrated participation in social media 
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends. 
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, initiative, and discretion in establishing and maintaining confidentiality and good working relationships. 
  • Professional attitude with ability to work harmoniously with a team. 
  • Reliable transportation
