The Los Angeles City Attorney's office is one of the nation's largest municipal law offices. The attorney selected for the position will serve as general counsel for City officers and departments on issues related to cybersecurity, data protection, and data privacy matters, including contract law, legal/regulatory compliance, and non-disclosure agreements. The attorney will be responsible for advising client officers and departments on, and the drafting of, information security policies and procedures (including breach/incident response management, investigation, and remediation), data governance and data protection standards (including data mapping and retention and deletion programs), and data anonymization. The attorney will also provide support to the procurement and contracting team with respect to information security aspects of contracts as well as assist the City with HIPAA compliance and data privacy/protection discussions with third parties.
The attorney may also be responsible for the development and drafting of ordinances and contracts and will be required to prepare advisory opinions or legal memoranda on issues of significance to the City. Additionally, the selected attorney may be asked to assist with handling specialized litigation relating to City departments, contracts, and ordinances.
Telework
This position may qualify for up to 3 days of telework per week following a 3-month period from date of hire.
Current Location
City Hall East, 200 N. Main Street, Los Angeles. Position is subject to assignment at any location within the County of Los Angeles.
Probation
For external applicants – Appointment to this exempt position (non Civil-Service) will be subject to a two (2) year probationary period as required by Section 1050 of the City Charter. Successful completion of the two (2) year probationary period will result in tenure with the office.
Classification
For internal applicants– Placement in this position will initially be as a lateral transfer with the selected candidate assuming the position in their current classification.
